INFORMATION GLEANED FROM THE 1851 CENSUS DEVON

The 1851 Census has been a useful resource for finding out more about the various families and their Devon distribution at the time.  It is the most useful early census (of those which began to be taken every 10 years from 1801) because it tends to give the birth location by specific area.  It also gives occupations, ages, and addresses.  Caution, however should be taken when using the census (particularly the CD) transcribers can make mistakes, and people themselves, do not always tell the truth about ages and relationships (I have a number of examples of this in my own line).

There were 14 Vogwills recorded on the 1851 Census of which

   Were living in

Were from the parishes of Peter Tavy, Withecombe, Plymouth, Whitchurch, and Kingsteinton.
